The Cal Poly Humboldt women’s soccer team has quickly put a shaky start to the new season behind them.

On Wednesday, the Lumberjacks secured their third straight win, beating Jessup University at College Creek Field in Arcata by a score of 2-0.

It was also the team’s third straight 2-0 win within seven days, having defeated Dominican and Academy of Art by identical scores.

The Jacks, who kicked off the new season with back-to-back losses, are now 3-2.

After Wednesday’s win, head coach Grant Landy said he was happy with his players’ collective approach to the game.

“We wanted to focus on our mentality today and thought our approach to the game was excellent,” he said. “The first 20 minutes might have been the best we have played all season so far. I thought we did a good job dealing with their physicality.”

The game was still tied 0-0 at halftime, but the home team would secure the victory with a second-half brace.

Mari Ige opened the scoring in the 64th minute, netting her second goal of the season, with Morgan Young and Frida Duran Arellano both assisting on the score.

The game, however, remained in the balance until late, before Annie Hoffman secured the points with an insurance goal.

It was Hoffman’s first goal of the season.

“We made a good adjustment in the second half,” Landy added. “The first goal was well worked and a composed finish by Mari. The second was just a blast from Annie into the upper 90 off a defensive turnover. It’s great to see her get on the scoreboard.”

The Jacks will try to keep their winning streak going when they travel south to play Concordia University Irvine on Saturday.

Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
