VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS — Officials on the mark with Tucker TD call

By Ray Hamill — The H-DNL football officials are already in mid-season form.

While some fans in the stands are often quick to call out the local officials for calls they believe are questionable, sometimes they also deserve credit for the calls they get right.

One such call occurred in last weekend’s game between the Arcata Tigers and Fortuna Huskies at McKinleyville High School.

The game itself served up an epic finish as the Tigers rallied from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to pull out a thrilling 26-18 victory.

The win keeps the Tigers unbeaten on the young season and gave them a second win over a Big 4 school in two weeks.

The late rally began with a touchdown catch by Cal Tucker from quarterback Luke Lemke.

Both players have kicked off the new season in impressive fashion and this was the third time they combined for a TD in two games.

From the snap, Lemke looked to his left but his first choice on the play was covered.

He then scrambled to his right and threw to a wide open Tucker, who caught the ball in tight space and managed to get one foot down in the end zone for the score, as per high school rules.

And the officials were spot on with the call, correctly calling it a touchdown despite how quickly everything happened.

You can check out video highlights of the play above.

Both teams will be back in action this weekend.

The Tigers will try to go to 3-0 when they travel to Crescent City to play the Del Norte Warriors, who also won last weekend and are 1-1 on the season.

The Huskies, meanwhile, will try to bounce back when they return home to play the McKinleyville Panthers, who are 0-1 on the season after a bye last weekend.

Also in action on Friday night, the Hoopa Warriors (0-2) will travel to Miranda to play the South From Cubs (0-1), while the Eureka Loggers (0-2) will play at Newark Memorial (1-1).

On Saturday afternoon, St. Bernard’s (2-0) will host Biggs (1-0) at 2 p.m.
