The College of the Redwoods women’s soccer team made it two straight wins with a shutout victory over Mendocino College in their home opener on Tuesday.
The Corsairs won 3-0, following their 6-2 win over the same team in Ukiah last week and are now 2-0 on the new season.
And once again former Arcata Tiger Alia Prentiss was instrumental in the win.
Prentiss, who scored five goals in last week’s win and assisted on the other, added another goal and assist.
Her six goals this season are second in the Golden Valley Conference and fifth best in the state.
South Lake Tahoe’s Leslie Jacobo-Duran leads the GVC with seven goals but has played four more games.
Miriam Munoz-Guerrero and Alexa Felix each also scored in Tuesday’s win, while Aria Mahony added an assist.
“It was a great effort from the group as a whole,” Redwoods head coach Taylor McMillin-Bianucci said.
Next up for the Corsairs is a game at Marin in two weeks.
The Cal Poly Humboldt women, meanwhile, will try to get their first win of the new season when they travel to play Dominican on Thursday.
The Jacks, who dropped a pair of games to Azusa Pacific (3-1) and Seattle Pacific (4-0) last week, are 0-2.
Thursday’s game is set for 1 p.m.
The CPH women also play at Academy of Art on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Cal Poly Humboldt men are also still looking for their first win of the new season.
The Jacks, who are 0-1-1, will travel to play two games in Atherton, matching up against Menlo on Thursday at 4 p.m. and against Fresno Pacific on Saturday at 1.
This past weekend, they tied Westminster 1-1 and lost to Dominican 2-0.
