By Ray Hamill — It was a busy night for H-DNL football on Friday with seven of the league’s teams in action.
The biggest game of the night took place at McKinleyville High School as the Arcata Tigers hosted the Fortuna Huskies in a showdown between two of the best teams in the area.
And the two league heavyweights did not disappoint, with the host Tigers rallying from a late 11-point deficit with three unanswered touchdowns in the final eight minutes on their way to a statement 26-18 win.
With the victory, the Tigers improved to 2-0, while the Huskies dropped to 1-1.
Also in action on Friday night, the Del Norte Warriors bounced back from their opening loss at Fortuna a week ago.
The Warriors hosted Ashland in their home opener and prevailed 28-20.
The Hoopa Warriors also were in action on Friday night, but fell 26-20 to Etna at Hoopa.
With the loss, Hoopa dropped to 0-2.
At Shasta, meanwhile, the Eureka Loggers fell 35-12 and also dropped to 0-2.
Too many penalties again proved costly for Eureka.
Also in action on Friday night, South Fork fell 36-14 at Fort Bragg and Ferndale traveled to Fall River.
No score was immediately available for the Wildcats.
The McKinleyville Panthers had a bye this weekend, while the St. Bernard’s Crusaders will host Willits on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
We’ll have results on those late games as soon as we get them, as well as much more on all of the night’s games on Saturday.
