By Ray Hamill — It w a good start to the new high school football season for the Fortuna Huskies, who shut out Del Norte 22-0 at Husky Field on Friday night.
Not only was this the record-setting 122nd career win for head coach Mike Benbow with the program, but just as importantly it was a statement win over one of the Huskies’ biggest rivals.
It also sets a nice tone for the team for the season.
Check out some of our game highlight above from what was the most anticipated local game of the opening weekend.
Quarterback Chandler Crenshaw threw for a pair of touchdowns in the win, one each to Mako Limon and Tim Still.
The impressive Limon would add a third TD on a run late in the game to close out the scoring.
“I’ll tell you what, our kids had a lot of adversity tonight and I am really proud of how they responded,” Benbow said afterwards. “A lot of kids got an opportunity tonight and they didn’t disappoint.”
The Huskies wore down the visitors with a dominating rushing attack that racked up 201 yards against a physical Del Norte defense.
Both defenses came to play and enjoyed the better of the early exchanges with just one TD in the opening half of the game.
