The Corsairs have announced the date for their celebration of life dinner in remembrance of Tino Romero, who sadly passed away earlier this summer.
The event will be held on Friday, Oct. 4. At the Bear River Casino Tish-non Ballroom and will run from 5 to 8 pm.
The former CR football player, coach and Athletics Program Coordinator passed away unexpectedly in June, but his lasting impact on Corsairs sports will long be remembered.
According to CR Athletics Director Bob Brown, Romero’s sudden passing was felt throughout the entire sports department.
“He touched everybody,” said Brown, who was also a close friend of Romero. “Within the department there was nobody Tino did not have an impact on, and we’ll never be able to replace that.”
Romero, a Eureka native, first joined the Corsairs after graduating from Eureka High School in 1988 and played for the local community college for two years before earning a scholarship to play at Washington State.
He returned to the program in 1999 as an assistant coach with the football and would spend the next 25 years working within the department, including a two-year spell as head coach of the football team.
Romero will be inducted into the CR Athletics Hall of Fame during halftime of the home football game against Chabot on Oct. 5, one day after the celebration of life.
That game will be played at the Redwood Bowl with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
Tickets for the celebration of life are $40 and are available through this link.
