The Humboldt Crabs’ bats closed out the summer in style over the weekend on the way to sweeping a season-concluding series against the Menlo Legacy at the Arcata Ball Park.

The Crabs combined for 35 runs on 37 hits in the three victories, winning 3-1 on Friday, 17-1 on Saturday and 15-2 on Sunday.

And several players closed out strong, including College of the Redwoods standout Blake Browning and team MVP Jett Ruby.

Browning hit home runs on both Saturday and Sunday, his first two long balls of the summer, while Ruby, who was named the 2024 team MVP shortly after Sunday’s win, finished 8-for-10 with two doubles and six runs over the final two games.

Browning’s home run on Sunday was one of four for the Crabs in the game, with Billy Ham hitting two and Max Farfan one.

Ham had three home runs over the weekend, his first three of the summer, having also hit one in Friday’s win.

Nolan Long got the win on the mound on Sunday and finished an excellent season with a record of 7-2 and an ERA of 3.66.

Eureka’s Rogan Bode also had a hit in the win as he continued his late season surge.

The 2023 Loggers graduate joined the team late and appeared in four games, hitting successfully in the final three of them.

Browning had two hits in each of the final two games, including a home run and a double on Saturday night.

Another CR standout, Parker Rodgers, also had two hits in Saturday’s win.

The 2021 Eureka High graduate finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs and hit a triple and a double.

Ham was 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored in that win, while Eureka’s Myles Standish got the win on the mound, his first of the summer.

The 2023 Loggers graduate, who is one of five former Eureka High players on this year’s roster, joined the team late in the summer and impressed in four appearances.

On Sunday, he threw five scoreless innings for the victory, giving up just two hits and two walks and striking out four.

Another former Eureka Logger, Hayden Bode, threw two scoreless innings in relief to cap an impressive summer with the team.

McKinleyville’s Cameron Saso got the start on the hill on Friday night, throwing six strong innings and giving up five hits and three walks and striking out four for a no decision.

Max Hippenstell got the win in relief.

The Crabs closed out another impressive summer with a record of 33-17, while the Legacy dropped to 0-12.
