Humboldt Flag Football playoffs set to kick off this weekend

By Ray Hamill — An exciting and well-received debut season for Humboldt Flag Football is winding down, as the league teams get set to kick off the playoffs this weekend.

The The NFL-backed league’s inaugural season began in mid June and featured seven weeks of regular season play.

The playoffs will feature nine games in three divisions, with six games scheduled to take place at Hiller Park on Saturday, as well as three championship games scheduled for the following Saturday.

Division 1 features players in kindergarten through first grade, while Division 2 features players in second through fourth grade and Division 3 features players in fifth through eighth grade.

The opening day of the postseason includes games in Division 2 and 3, and the action gets under way at 10 a.m.

Six teams will play compete for the Division 2 championship.

The Arcata Eagles and Arcata Bengals will get the action started at 10 a.m., followed by the Eureka Raiders and Macktown Panthers at 11:15 a.m.

The Eureka Vikings and Fortuna 49ers each received an opening-round bye and will kick of their postseason later in the day.

The Vikings will play the winner of the Eagles/Bengals game at 12:30 p.m., followed by the 49ers and the winner of the Raiders/Panthers game at 1:45 p.m.

The Division 3 action kicks off at 3 p.m., with four teams vying for a place in the following weekend’s decider.

The Arcata Eagles and the Arcata Bengals play at 3, followed by the Eureka Raiders and Macktown Panthers at 4:15 p.m.

In Division I, the Fortuna 49ers and Eureka Raiders have both advanced to the championship game and will face off at 10 a.m. the following Saturday.

The Division 2 championship will be held at 11:15 a.m., followed by the Division-3 decider at 12:30 p.m.
