The local Little League All-Star season is down to just one team after the Redwood Empire 11s bowed out of their Section tournament with a gutsy team performance in Yuba City on Wednesday night.

With their backs to the wall and facing a fourth straight elimination game, the young RELL players pushed Chico Central all the way before falling in extra innings.

Redwood Empire lost 3-2 in eight innings.

After losing their tournament opener to Chico on Saturday, the RELL All-Stars battled back with wins over Colusa and Red Bluff to set up a rematch with Chico on Tuesday night.

They won that game to set up the winner-takes-all championship showdown on Wednesday.

They took an early one-run lead in the decider, but Chico would battle back to open up a 2-1 lead in the fifth.

However, the RELL players tied things up again in the sixth to force the extra innings before ultimately falling by the narrowest of margins.

The McKinleyville 10-year-old All-Stars also bowed out of their Section tournament this week, while the McKinleyville Junior All-Stars saw a very impressive summer end at the NorCal state tournament.

The last remaining local all-star team still playing is the McKinleyville 12s, who won their Section tournament in Susanville this week and are a perfect 6-0 on the summer.

The McKinleyville 12s will open their NorCal state tournament in Madera on Saturday morning.
