Caden Vance is making a case to be MVP of the Humboldt Eagles tournament.
The former Eureka Logger, who plays collegiately at Umpqua in Oregon, had a second straight standout game in tournament play on Friday morning, leading Wild Cactus Baseball to a 6-3 win over the Southern Humboldt 76ers in the 19U bracket at Belotti Field across from the Redwood Acres.
Vance pitched a complete game for the win on the mound, giving up three unearned runs on four hits and three walks and striking out eight.
“Caden Vance was the star of the game,” head coach Matt Tomlin said of the 2023 Eureka High graduate.
For good measure, Vance also was 1-for-3 at the plate and drove in one of his team’s runs.
The big performance kept his impressive start to the tournament going.
On Thursday, in a 10-5 win over the Colts Red team, Vance was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
Nolan Hamilton also had a good game for Wild Cactus on Friday and finished 1-for-1 with a double, two walks and an RBI.
Hamilton also had three stolen bases and scored two runs.
His teammate Tyson Meyer added a sac fly and an RBI.
The Wild Cactus , who are now 2-0 at the tournament, will be back in action on Saturday when they play the Colts A team at 11:30 a.m. at Belotti Field.
