The strength of local youth basketball was on full display here on the North Coast this past weekend.

And it was on display all across the county.

The annual Humboldt Wild Battle in the Redwoods AAU youth basketball tournament took place at various locations around Humboldt, with games being played at nine different gymnasiums from Blue Lake and McKinleyville to Loleta.

The tournament featured 89 teams in total, with some of them traveling to the area from as far away as Lake Tahoe.

The event included 13 divisions for fourth through 12th graders and included boys and girls tournaments.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the community, schools, and families for their unwavering support, which made this event possible,” tournament organizers said in a press release.

“Wild President Dan Johnson sends special thanks to our local schools and facilities for hosting the games, and to the dedicated officials who generously gave their time to ensure our youth could play.

“We also express our deep appreciation to assignors Carlos Avelar and Dennis Sousa for their exceptional coordination, and to organizers Justin Claus, Issac Gildea, Cliff Hart, Katy Freeman and Rikki Cortopassi.”
