Morris, Santa Rosa Bear Cubs go down battling in CCCAA playoffs

Former Eureka standout Keenan Morris hit a pair of home runs in the playoffs for the Santa Rosa JC baseball team over the last two weekends, as the Bear Cubs’ season came to an end at the CCCAA Super Regionals.

Morris, a 2021 Eureka High graduate, hit a three-run blast in a 14-4 win over Chabot last Thursday to help keep the Bear Cubs’ season going.

However, a narrow 7-6 loss to Cabrillo the following day would see Santa Rosa’s season come to an end.

For the season, Morris batted .288 with 29 RBIs, 10 doubles and five home runs, and also was second on the team with 39 walks.

And he appeared to grow stronger at the plate for the playoffs.

In the Thursday win over Chabot, the former Eureka standout finished 4-for-4 with a walk, four RBIs, a home run and a double, and also scored three times.

In a 10-3 playoff-opening win over San Mateo, Morris hit a grand slam and was 2-for-3 with a walk and six RBIs.

In addition to playing at Eureka High, Morris also played locally during the summer for the Humboldt Eagles American Legion club.

The Bear Cubs closed out with a record of 31-15 and were 16-8 in the Big 8 Conference, which was just one win behind co-champions San Joaquin Delta and Folsom Lake.
