Tigers lose another close one at the Shasta tournament

The Arcata Tigers have been one of the most exciting teams to watch this season, and that continued to be the case on the opening day at the Shasta tournament on Tuesday.

Six of their 11 games so far have either been decided by one run or ended in a tie, including a 3-2 loss to Carson in their tournament opener.

After going five straight games without a loss to open the season, the Arcata boys have now gone six straight without a win, although four of their five losses in that spell have come by two runs or less and they have been right there in every game.

“We’re battling,” head coach Troy Ghisetti said. “My kids are staying in games. They’re doing a great job. We’ve just got to get over the hump.”

Five different Arcata players had one hit each in Tuesday’s loss, including Alex Greenway, Anthony Ebert, Eli Greeway, Eli Joachim, and Canyon Martin.

Finn Warner got the start on the mound and threw five strong innings, with Jonah O’Brien and Eli Greenway each pitching an inning in relief.

Warner gave up just one earned run and struck out five while walking five, although two of the walks were intentional.

“Our pitchers did an exceptional job today,” added Ghisetti, whose dropped to 4-5-2.

The Tigers will try to get back to winning ways on Wednesday when they play both Enterprise and Lassen in tournament action.

The Tigers have a bye in conference play this week.
