By Ray Hamill — Four scheduled Big 5 openers in baseball and softball have been pushed back again because of the field conditions.
All four games are originally scheduled to take place on Wednesday but were pushed back to Thursday.
On Thursday morning, however, it was announced that all four openers — which are part of three-game series between the teams — have been postponed again.
The Arcata baseball and softball teams were slated to play single games at Eureka, with the Fortuna teams scheduled to play single games at McKinleyville.
All four single games will now take place on various days in April.
The softball game between Fortuna and McKinleyville has been tentatively rescheduled for Monday at Mack High, with the Arcata and Eureka softball game now set for Tuesday in Eureka.
The Arcata and Eureka baseball game will now take place at Eureka on April 10, followed by the Fortuna and McKinleyville baseball game at McKinleyville on April 11.
However, the conference doubleheaders for all of these teams are still scheduled to take place on Saturday.
As of right now, the Eureka boys will play at Arcata and the Fortuna boys will play at McKinleyville, with the latter doubleheader switched from Fortuna to Mack because of field conditions.
The McKinleyville girls, meanwhile, will play at Fortuna and the Eureka girls will play at Arcata.
Saturday’s doubleheaders are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
Both Del Norte teams have an opening-week bye.
