The California Collegiate Athletic Association announced on Wednesday that Cal Poly Humboldt’s Rob Diaz III has been named the conference freshman of the year.

Diaz also received an all-conference honorable mention.

The Lumberjacks guard from Long Beach led all true freshman in the CCAA in points, assists, and steals.

“Rob has worked extremely hard on and off the floor this year, and it is nice to see his hard work get recognized and rewarded,” Humboldt head coach Chris Tifft said. “When we started putting our team together last July, Rob was one of the first student-athletes we targeted in recruiting.

“He exemplifies the type of student-athlete we are looking to build a championship program around.”

Diaz paced the Lumberjacks with 12.5 points on a .454 percent shooting.

He added 3.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.

The 6-1 guard reached double digits in scoring 19 times and had five 20-point games, which included posting a career-high 24 points against Cal State Monterey Bay.

Diaz also ranked sixth in the CCAA with 1.48 steals per game.
