By Ray Hamill — The two H-DNL girls basketball teams to qualify for the state playoffs have received very favorable seeds.
The brackets were announced on Sunday afternoon, with St. Bernard’s and Arcata included.
Both schools have been placed in the 16-team Division-4 NorCal bracket, with St. Bernard’s receiving the top seed and Arcata No. 2.
That means both teams will host their opening round games on Tuesday and will not have to travel out of the area for any games until a potential state championship game, providing they each keep winning.
St. Bernard’s opens against No. 16 West Campus and Arcata opens against No. 15 Bear River.
The McKinleyville boys also qualified for the state playoffs and were included in the Division-5 bracket.
The Panthers are seeded No. 9 and will open on the road at No. 8 Mt. Shasta, also on Tuesday.
If the Panthers win, they will play a NorCal quarterfinal at No. 1 Athenian, which received an opening-round bye.
All of Tuesday’s games are set for 7 p.m.

The Arcata girls will open the state playoffs at home on Tuesday night.

The McKinleyville boys are seeded No. 9 in Division 5 for the NorCal tournament.
