Local college teams return home after tough road trips

All four local college basketball teams will play home games this week, including the College of the Redwoods and Cal Poly Humboldt men’s teams who are hoping to put their recent struggles behind them.

The Corsairs, who dropped two road games last week, will play College of the Siskiyous in a doubleheader with the women’s teams on Wednesday night.

The CR women, who are the only one of the four local college teams coming off a win last week, will tip off against Siskiyous at 5 p.m, followed by the man at 7.

The CR women beat Lassen 70-31 last Thursday to improve to 1-1 in the Golden Valley Conference and 7-12 overall.

They were scheduled to play at Feather River on Saturday, but the game was canceled because the Golden Eagles do not have a team.

The CR men, meanwhile, have now lost five of their last seven games, including losses last week at Lassen (74-71) and at Feather River (82-66).

Redwoods is 1-2 in conference (11-10 overall) and Wednesday’s game against a Siskiyous team that leads the conference with a 3-0 record is now a must win for the Corsairs if they are keep their hopes of a fourth consecutive conference title alive.

The Siskiyous men are 8-12 overall.

The two CR teams will also travel this week for Saturday games at Shasta.

Both Cal Poly Humboldt reams, meanwhile, will host Sonoma State on Thursday night and Cal State San Marcos on Saturday night.

The Lumberjacks men’s team remains winless in the California Collegiate Athletic Association after losing 81-59 at Cal State Los Angeles over the weekend.

The Jacks, who have now dropped seven straight and 11 of their last 12 games, are 0-11 in conference and 3-13 on the season.

The Humboldt women also fell at Los Angeles on Saturday, losing 74-66.

The Lumberjacks are now 5-6 in conference and 7-8 overall.

Thursday’s game at Lumberjack Arena are set for 5:30.m. (women) and 7:30 p.m. (men).
