The Loggers fell in overtime to University Prep in non-league boys basketball at Eureka on Monday.

Eureka lost 65-59 to a quality Panthers team that improved to 14-8.

The loss was the fourth straight for the home team, which fell to 12-10.

“We took it into overtime, but in the end we had too many turnovers to get the W,” Eureka head coach Jimmy Rodgers said. “They played with a lot of effort and I’m really proud of the team.”

Elijah Estrada led the Eureka offense with a team-high 15 points and also had six rebounds, while teammate Julian Goodman continued to impress and had a double-double, finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Nelson Botzler-Washington led the defense and finished with an impressive 19 boards, while also doing an effective job containing the University center.

Will Mooney added eight points in the loss, Jahmil Rippy had seven points and Trenton Gerber finished with six points.

The Loggers will try to get back on track with a pair of Big 5 games this week.

They host Del Norte on Wednesday, before Fortuna heads to Eureka on Friday.
