After an outstanding season leading St. Bernard’s to as first-ever Big 4 championship in football, senior Wyatt Simoni has been named to the CalHiSports all-state small schools team.
Simoni was one of just 30 players from around the state named to the all-state first team, and received some serious recognition for player of the year.
According to the story on CalHiSports, which can be accessed here, Simoni was “Another first teamer who was considered for the player of the year honor.”
The 45th annual all-state team was announced on Sunday and Simoni was included as one of six all-purpose players for his play at running back/linebacker.
The 6-foot, 200 pound senior also saw time at quarterback and defensive end.
Simoni finished the season with 1,962 yards rushing, which was third most in the North Coast Section, and 568 yards receiving.
He also had 37 total touchdowns and 15 sacks on defense, both of which were second most in the NCS, as well as 104 tackles, an interception and three fumble recoveries.
“I just think he was the most complete player in the H-DN this year with what he did on both sides of the ball,” St. Bernard’s head coach Matt Tomlin said of Simoni at the end of the season.“And as far as St. Bernard’s football, he ranks up there with the best players we’ve ever had.”
Simoni was also named Big 4 Offensive MVP and Humboldt Sports Player of the Year.
