BASKETBALL ROUNDUP — Cubs, Tigers and Huskies win

File photo – Arcata’s Luke Lemke scored 27 points in the Tigers’ victory at Rancho Cotate on Saturday.

The South Fork and Arcata boys and the Fortuna girls all won non-league basketball games on Saturday afternoon.

The Cubs beat Upper Lake 74-45 with some strong offense from throughout the roster, including 10 3-pointers.

Tommy Rotbergs led the offense with 21 points, while Camren Washington came off the bench to nail four 3s.

“He has been building momentum off the bench in the last few games, so it was great to see him have success in that way,” head coach Taylor Morrow said.

Shevy Bero-Van Meter also continued to impress.

The senior standout has been a consistent bright spot for the Cubs and finished with 10 points, including a par of 3s, as well as several assists.

With the win, the Cubs improved to 15-5.

The Arcata boys also won at Rancho Cotate 68-43.

Luke Lemke scored a team-high 27 points in the win, as the Tigers improved to 10-9.

Dayquan Dunn followed his huge performance at Eureka on Thursday with nine points against Rancho Cotate, while Ronnie Rieke added seven points.

“We played well,” head coach Kellen Maynard said. “We started off a little slow. Our offense was there but we weren’t real good on defense so we switched it up and went to zone.”

It was a decision that worked as the Tigers settled into the game.

At Fortuna, meanwhile, the Huskies got a nice 53-26 win over Kelseyville one day after losing a close one against Del Norte.

Maleesa Miles led a balanced offensive performance with 12 points, while Allie Cox added 10 points and Myra Hayes and Mariah Bravo each scored eight.

Bravo also pulled down 11 rebounds.

“The girls played with great energy,” head coach Tom Chapman said. “It was a nice bounce-back win for us.”

Miles was particularly effective, as the Huskies improved to 12-9.

“Maleesa Miles shot the ball well and played good defense,” Chapman said.

The Huskies play at Novato on Monday.
