The Arcata Tigers won their third straight game in girls basketball on Saturday afternoon, beating Ukiah 59-37 in non-league action at Arcata High.

With the win, the Tigers improved to 11-3 on the season.

Senior Nora Talty and sophomore Mae Wolford each scored a team-high 15 points in the win, while teammate Addison Wingate also impressed and finished with 12 points.

Ukiah dropped to 6-12.

The Tigers, who had a bye in league play on Friday night, have now won six of their last seven games.

They will return to conference play when they host Big 5 leaders McKinleyville in a pivotal showdown on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Arcata is 1-0 in the Big 5 after a 53-30 win over Fortuna on Wednesday, while the Panthers are 2-0 after big wins this week over Del Norte and Fortuna.

In other local games on Saturday, the South Fork boys fell 44-34 at Sonoma Academy.

The loss was the second in three days for the Cubs, who dropped their Little 4 opener to St. Bernard’s on Thursday night.

Tommy Rotbergs scored a team-high 13 points for South Fork, which is now 12-5, while teammate Trevor Hunt added eight points.

“We had a hard time finding our rhythm all game and struggled offensively,” South Fork head coach Taylor Morrow said. “But we had a very constructive athlete-driving post game discussion. I think we can build on that talk.”

The Coyotes improved to 10-3 with the win.

Sonoma Academy is ranked No. 8 in the state among Division-5 teams, according to MaxPreps.

Two scheduled local varsity games were postponed on Saturday.

St. Bernard’s was set to host Trinity in boys and girls games but the Trinity teams were unable to make the trip because of the weather conditions.

The Arcata boys were scheduled to play at Ukiah on Saturday night.
