The Fortuna Huskies and Del Norte Warriors will meet in the final of the Fort Bragg girls basketball tournament on Saturday night.
The two Big 5 rivals won their semifinals on Friday, with the Huskies beating Windsor 46-39 and Del Norte getting the better of Trinity 48-30.
Kalie Chittenden scored a team-high 14 points for the Fortuna girls, while teammate Mariah Bravo finished with 11points.
But it was the team defense that helped seal the win, as the Huskies held Windsor to just three second-half field goals.
“It was a good win for the team,” Fortuna head coach Tom Chapman said. “We did not play particularly well offensively, but the girls fought hard the entire game.”
Allie Cox also had a good game for Fortuna and finished with eight points and seven steals, while teammate Jorlynn Villalvazo had eight points.
With the win, the Huskies improved to 11-4.
The Warriors also had an off night offensively but secured the win with some strong defense.
Khloe Smith was instrumental in the victory, as the Warriors improved to 11-2.
Smith scored four points and locked down Trinity’s standout freshman guard.
Center Lauren Stutes also had a good game at both ends of the floor and finished with nine points.
“Lauren Stutes and the rest of the bigs owned the paint,” Del Norte head coach Dylan Nelson said.
Brooklyn Carter scored a team-high 10 points in the win, while Anyessa Bettega finished with eight points and “controlled the tempo down the stretch,” according to the coach.
Breann Winingham and Koy-Poh McQuillen each also scored five points, while Bliss Blackburn added four points.
Saturday’s game is set for 6:30 p.m.
