After a 2-3 start to the season, the Fortuna boys basketball team is finding its groove.
On Saturday, the Huskies won for the fourth time in five games on their way to winning the consolation game at the Justin Gardner Memorial Tournament at Nevada Union High School.
Fortuna defeated Valley Christian 88-62, closing out tournament play 2-1 and improving to 6-4 on the season.
And they won with some offensive depth, with 11 of the team’s 12 players scoring.
The standout senior tandem of Alfonso Medina and Russell Pascascio once again led the way and helped set the tone for their teammates as they have been doing for much of the season.
The ever-dangerous Medina scored a team-high 28 points in the win, while Pascascio continued to be a force inside and added 13 points.
They got plenty of offensive help from their teammates.
Kallen Barrote and Hunter Reback each scored nine points in the win, while Lolo Payne, Mason Toroni, Kyle Grundman and Trent McGrath each finished with five points.
Jace Barsanti was named all-tournament for the team.
Next up, on Tuesday the Huskies will try to make it three straight wins when they travel to play South Fork in what should be another good early season test against the two-time defending Little 4 champions.
