Florvilus named MVP as Crusaders win Cloverdale tourney

On Saturday, St. Bernard’s successfully defended the Cloverdale tournament championship they won a year ago in girls basketball with their third victory in three days.

The SB girls defeated Langston Hughes (67-11) on Thursday and followed that with a 51-21 win over Lower Lake on Friday and a 40-20 win over the host school in Saturday’s championship game.

Several players stood out for the Crusaders, including Laila Florvilus, who was named tournament MVP.

Florvilus scored 18 points in Saturday’s final, giving her 49 points for the tournament.

Madelyn Shanahan also has gotten the new season off to an impressive start and finished with 11 points in Saturday’s win on her way to being named to the all-tournament team.

Jocelyn Sundberg aded eight points on Saturday.

The St. Bernard’s girls are now 3-0.
