The College of the Redwoods men’s basketball won a fourth straight game to open the Coach Treggs Classic at CR on Thursday night.
The Corsairs were hot from downtown and hit 13 3-pointers in an 82-64 win over a Southwestern Oregon team that was 5-1 coming into the game.
Some great first-half defense paved the way to victory and the CR men led 41-28 at halftime.
“We were electric defensively in that first half,” CR head coach Ryan Bisio said. “Our guys’ passion and attention to detail was magnificent. Their energy really excited the crowd.
“SWOCC has a lot of shooting and we did a good job of making them put it in the deck. We really embraced being in rotation tonight and were decisive.”
Trey Neff led the CR offense with 21 points while Mason Mottashed continued his impressive week with 13 points.
Jett Cheong also had 13 points in the win and Kai Purcell chipped in 12.
Mason Railsback also played a key role in the win, as the Corsairs improved to 5-5.
“Mason Railsback put a lot of pressure on the rim late in that game to kind of break their backs. We hope he continues trying to get downhill like that.”
The Corsairs brought a lot of energy to the matchup.
“We got a little tired in the second half but I’m so proud of our guys’ full throttle effort tonight,” Bisio added. “I’m glad they were affirmed for putting it out there like that.”
The Corsairs will try to make it five straight wins when they continue tournament play against Mendocino on Friday night at 7.
And Bisio is expecting a battle from an Eagles team that is 2-3.
“Mendocino is a good team and it always feels like playing against a sibling,” he said. “It will be intense. They will be ready to play.”
Also in tournament action on Friday, SWOCC plays Napa at 5 p.m.
