A successful season for the Cal Pol Humboldt women’s soccer team continued over the weekend with an overtime victory in the opening round of the California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament.
The Jacks, who are seeded No. 5 for the postseason tournament, won 2-1 at No. 4 Stanislaus State on Sunday.
The Humboldt women trailed late in the game after the home team broke the deadlock with a 78th minute goal.
However, Erin Mohr would equalize just three minutes later to force the extra period when she netted from the penalty spot.
The Jacks carried the momentum into overtime and Frida Duran Arellano would score the game winner in the 103rd minute, with teammates Kylea Becker and Emilia Long both assisting on the goal.
With the win, the Jack improved to 13-4-2.
The victory was the Jacks first ever in the CCAA tournament.
The Humboldt women will try to secure a place in the tournament final when they play No. 1 seed Cal Poly Pomona in Seaside on Friday at 7 p.m.
The Pomona women had a first-round bye.
