The Arcata Tigers swept all six singles titles at this past weekend’s H-DNL Girls Tennis Championships at Fortuna.

Iris Besmer took the victory at No. 1 singles and will represent the league at the upcoming North Coast Section championships.

The six titles capped another dominating season for the Arcata girls, who went undefeated in league matchups for the sixth consecutive year.

Besmer defeated St. Bernard’s Claire Shin in the No. 1 final by a score of 6-0, 6-1.

The No. 2 singles final was the closest of the day, with Arcata’s Meta Nave defeating Eureka’s Annie Tran, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, while at No. 3 singles, Arcata’s Abigail Issa didn’t give up a game on the way to beating Northcoast Prep’s Ayla Weiss, 6-0, 6-0 in the final.

NPA had four girls reach finals.

At No. 4, Arcata’s Astreya McKnight defeated NPA’s Simone Leach 6-1, 6-2; at No. 5, Arcata’s Kloee Donnelly defeated NPA’s Anika Yoda 6-1, 6-2; and at No. 6, Arcata’s Jasmine McKnight defeated NPA’s Aisha Pevec 6-1, 6-2.

The H-DNL Doubles Championships will be held at Fortuna on Friday, beginning at 10 a.m.

After that the Tigers will turn their attention toward the NCS playoffs, including the team tournament.

This year’s dominating Arcata team featured four seniors — Jasmine McKnight, Ella Manthorne, Natalie Dreyer and Astreya McKnight — all of whom were honored before the final home match of the regular season against NPA.

“These four seniors will be greatly missed next year and have been an asset to the team this year,” head coach Onawa Gutierrez said.
