The Ferndale Wildcats are hoping the Del Norte Warriors can do them a favor on Friday afternoon.

A 4-0 win over South Fork on Thursday moved the Cats to within one point of St. Bernard’s in the Little 4 standings with one game remaining, against SB on Tuesday.

However, the Crusaders can wrap up the league title with a win over the Warriors.

If the Del Norte girls can get a tie or a win, it would set up a championship decider in the league finale in Ferndale.

Thursday was also senior night for the Wildcats, who honored a class of seven before kickoff, including five players who have played a major role with the program for the past few years.

The senior class includes Regan Russ, Clara Christiansen, Delia Weiss, Jayden Murphy and Reagan Langer, as well as first-year seniors Mia Rodriguez and Lili Lucier.

Three of those seniors were involved in the goals on Thursday.

Langer scored the opening two goals of the game, while Murphy assisted on three of the goals and had “an outstanding game,” according to head coach Bailey Davy.

Freshman Teresa Cantana and sophomore Madison Gossi each also scored in the win.

More than anything, however, this was a day to honor the seniors.

“It’s a really solid good group of girls,” Davy said of the class.

Russ, Christiansen and Weiss all had a big impact while helping to anchor the Ferndale defense this year, while Murphy and Langer helped lead the attack.

Rodriguez and Lucier both played with the team for the first time this season and their presence was crucial on a small roster of just 13.

“Those two made it possible to have a team this year,” the head coach said.
