The Northern Humboldt Steelheads 11Us enjoyed a successful trip to Medford over the weekend, winning the Summer Sizzler tournament.

The tournament was originally scheduled for August but had to be pushed back because of the air quality in the area at the time.

“The coaching staff is so proud of these kids,” coach Zach Smith said. “We played some awesome teams from Northern California and Oregon. It felt like everyone showed up.”

The young Steelheads were one of three Humboldt County teams to take first place in their tournament bracket.

The 10U Redwood Giants and the 12U Redwood Giants both also took home a tournament championship as well.

“It was awesome to see the 10U Redwood Giants and 12U Redwood Giants bring home a banner as well,” Smith added. “Humboldt represented this last weekend.”

Taylor Shrewsberry, Brylon Smith, Blake Sample and Lucas Lopez led the way on the hill for the Steelheads and “pitched amazing on the mound,” according to their coach.
