By Ray Hamill — McKinleyville’s Damian Dinan won for the second straight week in H-DNL cross country, but the Arcata Tigers’ depth led them to another team win.

The second of seven scheduled league races took place at Hiller Park in McKinleyville on Wednesday, with the dominating Dinan once again taking the win.

The talented senior, who set a 5K school cross country record at Del Norte last week, has won every regular season league race dating back to 2021.

That’s now eight straight regular-season wins for the Panthers runner.

Dinan won in a time of 16 minutes, 26 seconds, which was 24 seconds faster than the field.

Arcata junior Reece Thompson finished second in a time of 16:50 and was one of six Arcata runners to place in the top nine.

Thompson was the only runner to finish within a minute of Dinan’s time.

The Eureka duo of junior Everett Docherty (17:42) and senior Chase Jimenez (17:44.08) placed third and fourth, with the latter barely edging Arcata freshman Eoin McGoldrick (17:44.78) by less than a second.

Arcata scored 28 team points to give the Tigers a comfortable win, with Eureka (40), McKinleyville (94) and Hoopa (120) rounding out the top four teams.

Arcata also took the six through nine individual spots.

Freshman Evan Poston followed McGoldrick across the finish line, followed by senior Kai Frimodig, sophomore Ocean Walker and junior Levi Browne.

Eureka’s Ryder Bullam was 10th and was the third freshman to place in the top 10.
