Race for season championships go down to the final night

While Gary Klinetobe goes for a perfect season sweep in the mini stocks, the race for the championship in two other divisions will go down to the final night of action at the Redwood Acres Raceway this weekend.

The 2023 season concludes at the local track with the Annual Fall Spectacular on Saturday night.

Klinetobe was officially crowned mini stocks champion last week and will look to complete a sweep of the 2023 main events in his division on the final night of the season.

The bomber division is all but decided as well, and the dominating Doug Way can lock up the 2023 championship by merely starting Saturday’s race.

However, two other local divisions remain up for grabs.

Brandon Barnwell and Luke Hall have enjoyed a back-and-forth battle all season in the late models and there is little separating the two frontrunners going into the final night of action.

Branwell holds just a six-point lead over his rival.

The legends division is equally tight and could go down to the final lap of the final main event, with Tyler Krupa holding a narrow seven-point lead over Landen Green in second.

The final night of the season, which is being sponsored by O’Reilly Auto Parts, will also feature the North State Modified Series and the Upstate Modified Series competing head-to-head at RAR for the second time in 2023.

Scott Winters, who won the earlier North State Modified race at RAR on June 24, holds a sizable 60-point lead in the series.

Kyle Tellstrom leads the Upstate series by 21 points, with Sammy Nuno and Cole Brown tied for second.

Tickets for Saturday’s season finale are available on RacinTheAcres.com.

General admission tickets are $15, while senior and military tickets are $12.

Tickets can also be purchased in-person at Automasters in Eureka, Don’s Rent-All in Eureka, McKinleyville Barbershop and JC Auto in Fortuna, as well as at the front gate on race day.

Grandstands will open at 4 p.m. with racing starting at 5:30.

The action will also be streamed live on RacinTheAcres.tv and SpeedSport.tv.

A special Friday practice session is scheduled to take place from 1 to 5 p.m.
