Loggers prepare for league play with straight sets win

The Eureka Loggers will head into league play with a little bit of momentum later this week after a straight sets win over Hoopa in volleyball on Tuesday.

Playing in their new gymnasium, the Loggers won 25-19, 25-15, 25-13.

And senior captains Isis Poteet and Anisha Rae Rechelluul each continued to play key roles for the team.

Poteet led the Eureka girls with 12 kills and also had a block, while Rechelluul dished out a team-high 14 assists.

Freshman Tiarah Maualuga also had a good night and finished with four kills and a block, while Samara Gaither and Baylie Battle led the way at the service line.

Gaither finished with 10 aces and Battle had eight.

Sydney Waterman also had three kills in the win.

No stats were immediately available for Hoopa.

The Loggers will begin league play one Thursday night when they host McKinleyville.

Also in action in the Big 5 on Thursday, Del Norte plays at Arcata.

In the Little 4 on Thursday, Ferndale opens at St. Bernard’s and South Fork plays at Hoopa.
