By Ray Hamill — After finishing the 2022 season strong, St. Bernard’s senior Wyatt Simoni picked up just where he left off in this year’s season-opener against Hoopa.
The standout running back/defensive end was a nightmare matchup for the Warriors on both sides of the ball in a comfortable 47-6 win at Crusader Field on Saturday afternoon.
Simoni scored on runs of five and 50 yards in the first quarter to help set the early tone.
For the game he rushed for 166 yards and a pair of TDs on just nine carries and also finished with three sacks and four tackles for a loss.
“Wyatt Simoni was the best player on the field,” St. Bernard’s head coach Matt Tomlin said. “He was amazing.”
Check out some of the video highlights from the first half above, including some big plays by Simoni, on both sides of the ball.
The senior standout looks set for a big senior campaign and should be among the best players in the H-DNL this fall.
Especially with the help of an offensive line that should be among the most physical and experienced on the North Coast.

Simoni and the Crusaders will look to keep their impressive start to the new season going this week when they travel to play the Wolverines in Willits on Friday night.
The Wolverines also won their opening game of the season this past weekend, beating Berean Christian 40-20.
