By Ray Hamill — The first of two travel team baseball tournaments scheduled for Humboldt County this month will take place at three different locations in Eureka this weekend.
The Six Rivers Kings will host the Rumble in the Redwoods, with brackets for 10Us, 12Us and 13Us.
The tournament gets under way on Saturday and will run for two days at the Redwood Fields in Cutten and at Kennedy Field in Eureka.
The pre-tournament festivities get under way on Friday night at 7 p.m. with a home run derby at Belotti Field across from the Redwood Acres.
Five teams will compete in the 10U division, with the Redwood Giants, the Northern Humboldt Steelheads 10Us, Northern Humboldt Steelheads 9Us and WVBR all joining the host team.
The Giants, Steelheads and the Sandlot Crew will battle it out in the 12U bracket, while the 13U bracket will feature just two teams, with the Kings and the Jr Riverhawks playing a doubleheader against each other on both days.
Later in the month the City of Eureka is scheduled to host the 2023 Redwood Coast Grand Slam Baseball Tournament on the weekend of Aug. 26 and 27.
