Four Cal Poly Humboldt student-athletes have been named as 2023 National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) All-American award recipients.

The four recipients are Dana Foley (rowing), Kendal Spencer (women’s soccer), Izzy Star (softball) and Macy Thomas (volleyball).

The NSCA presents these awards for accomplishments and dedication to strength and conditioning.

The four recipients were nominated by Humboldt strength and conditioning coaches Drew Petersen and Anthony Ratto.

“We are proud to have Drew and Anthony join the NSCA in its mission to safely improve athletic performance,” NSCA’s Coaching and Sport Science Program Manager Eric McMahon said in a press release. “Supporting our student-athletes guarantees a stronger future for the NSCA.”

Since the inception of the NSCA All-American Awards, 126 Lumberjacks have received the honor, with Jason White (football), Reggie Bolton (football) and Lynell Stokes (women’s basketball) the first recipients in 1991.

“Strength is the foundation of athleticism and performance,” Petersen said. “Our athletes spend a great deal of time working on this foundation in the weight room. The NSCA recognizes their efforts with the annual All-American Strength and Conditioning Awards.”
