A pair of H-DNL players have been included on the CalHiSports All-State Baseball Teams.
Seniors Tyler Dimmick of St. Bernard’s and Cole Ayala of Fortuna were both honored on the teams, which were released last week.
Dimmick was included as a multi-purpose player (hitting and pitching) on the all-state small schools first team, while Ayala was included as a catcher on the all-state small schools second team.
Both are coming off outstanding seasons playing for their respective schools.
Dimmick was named MVP of the Little 4 after leading a young SB team to a league title and a North Coast Section championship.
He led his team in batting average (.380), RBIs (24) and on-base percentage (.531).
He also finished the season with a record of 9-2 on the mound and a minuscule ERA of 0.63.
He remarkably had 110 strikeouts in 67 innings and just six walks.
“Dimmick has been special this year,” head coach Matt Tomlin said of the senior standout during the season. “He’s just so consistent. He throws strikes over and over.”
Ayala, meanwhile, was just as special for the 2023 history-making Fortuna team and was one of two Humboldt Sports Players of the Year, along with teammate Cody Collins.
The versatile Ayala played a pivotal role for the Huskies both at catcher and third base and was a monster at the plate.
The senior star had one of the most clutch at-bats in Big 5 history when he hit a walk-off home run on the final at-bat in league play to help secure the Huskies’ first league title in 47 years.

Cole Ayala
Collins edged Ayala for Big 5 MVP, but afterwards his coach at Fortuna, Max Betts, also had high praise for Ayala.
“You could have given the MVP to Cole and nobody would have questioned it,” Betts said. “Cole is a hell of a player.”
Ayala will play collegiately at Montana State-Billings, while Dimmick has opted not to play at the next level.
