Caden Vance led a late rally for the Humboldt Eagles 19Us at the Medford tournament on Friday night, but it wasn’t quite enough as the local American Legion club fell 8-7 to the Medford Mustangs.
The loss was the second straight by one run in tournament play for the Eagles, who also lost 5-4 to Salem on Thursday.
Vance, however, was outstanding and finished 4-for-4, including a huge three-run home run in the sixth inning to key a late rally after the Eagles had fallen behind 8-3.
Vance, according to head coach Matt Tomlin, hit the ball hard every at-bat.
The Eagles added another run in the seventh to pull within one and had runners at second and third before the Mustangs got the final out and escaped with the victory.
The in-form Cayden Lee also continued to impress at the plate and was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Rogan Bode was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.
Cody Collins took the loss on the mound, allowing five runs in 2.2 innings, with Cooper Ohlsen, Cayden Danbrauskas and Will Mager all pithing in relief.
The Eagles, who have lost three straight games, are now 11-6-1.
The Eagles continue tournament play on Saturday.
