By Ray Hamill — After clinching North Coast Section titles on Saturday, both Arcata and St. Bernard’s will travel for their NorCal baseball playoff openers this coming week.
The Tigers received the No. 6 seed in the Division-III bracket and will play at No. 3 Chico on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
The Crusaders also received a six seed and were placed in the Division-IV bracket, where they will open at No. 3 Gridley, also on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Chico is 18-7, while Gridley is 15-5.
The Ferndale boys also received an at-large berth for the NorCals, as have the Del Norte girls for the NorCal softball playoffs.
The Warriors and Wildcats both finished runners-up in their section tournaments.
The Del Norte girls are seeded No. 6 in the Division-IV and will open at No. 3 Capital Christian, also on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Capital Christian is 16-5.
The Ferndale boys are seeded No. 6 in the Division-V baseball bracket and will open at No. 3 Etna (19-5-1) on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
If the Tigers win their NorCal opener, they would play against either No. 2 Central Catholic or No. 7 Colusa in the semifinals.
If the Crusaders win on Tuesday, they will advance to play either No. 2 Santa Teresa or No. 7 Stevenson.
If Ferndale wins, No. 2 University or No. 7 Los Molinos await later in the week.
If the Del Norte girls win their opener, they would play either No. 2 Fowler or No. 2 Summerville in the semifinals.
St. Bernard’s is the defending NorCal Division-III champion.
Arcata defeated Justin-Siena 5-4 to win the NCS D-4 championship at the Arcata Ball Park on Saturday night, rallying from a late four-run deficit.
St. Bernard’s defeated Ferndale in the NCS D-6 final, 9-0 at Crusader Field.
The Del Norte girls fell 3-0 to Cardinal Newman.
