VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS — Arcata boys show plenty of fight in NCS playoffs

By Ray Hamill — With his team trailing late in Saturday’s North Coast Section Division-4 championship game but refusing to throw in the towel, senior Cedar Cline told me this is a team that always fights.

“Whether we win or lose,” he said, while standing alongside me outside the dugout, “please write that we showed some fight.”

Well Cedar, it’s safe to say your team showed plenty of fight.

A few minutes later, sophomore Wilson Medina capped a thrilling week for the team with a clutch walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh that completed a comeback from a four-run deficit and secured a 5-4 win over Justin-Siena.

It was the Tigers’ second walk-off win in just four days after Anthony Ebert delivered in the clutch in a 2-1 victory over Del Norte in the semifinals.

So it’s safe to say these Tigers have been showing plenty of fight all postseason.

But if Wednesday’s game was exciting, this one was even more so, as the wild celebrations would suggest.

The NCS championship is the program’s third ever, with all of them coming in the past six postseasons, but this is arguably the most thrilling yet.

Interestingly, it was also the second of the day for the H-DNL, following St. Bernard’s Division-6 championship win.

That means two of the six section championships have gone to H-DNL schools.
