By Ray Hamill — The schedules and brackets for next week’s Charlie Lakin H-DN Tournaments have been finalized.

The action in both softball and baseball gets under way on Wednesday and will run for three days, with the two championship games set for Friday night.

The softball tournament will be played at the Arcata Sports Complex, while the baseball tournament will take place at the Arcata Ball Park.

The four outright league champions — the Fortuna and St. Bernard’s boys and the Del Norte and Hoopa girls — all received a first-round bye and won’t begin tourney play until Thursday.

Wednesday’s baseball openers will see Big 5 No. 2 seed Arcata take on Little 4 No. 3 South Fork at 4 p.m., followed by Little 4 No. 2 Ferndale and Big 5 No. 3 McKinleyville at 7 p.m.

The winner of the Arcata/South Fork game will play St. Bernard’s on Thursday at 4 p.m., followed by Fortuna and the winner of the Ferndale/McKinleyville game at 7 p.m.

Wednesday’s softball openers, meanwhile, see L4 No. 2 St. Bernard’s play B5 No. 3 McKinleyville at 5 p.m., followed by B5 No. 2 Eureka and L4 No. 3 Ferndale at 7 p.m.

Thursday’s semifinal round will see Del Norte play the winner of the SB/Mack game at 5 p.m., followed by the winner of Eureka and Ferndale game playing Hoopa at 7 p.m.

That could mean a rematch between the Loggers and Warriors and standout pitchers Tatianna Colegrove of Hoopa and Kira Morris of Eureka, after the Hoopa girls won a recent showdown between the two schools, 8-1.

The Ferndale Wildcats will play the McKinleyville Panthers at the Arcata Ball Park on Wednesday.

The softball championship will be played at 5 p.m. on Friday, with the baseball final starting at 7 p.m.

No school passes will be permitted for the tournaments, only H-DN and NCS passes will be honored.

Ticket prices are $6 and $3 and the higher seeds will be the home teams.
