Del Norte freshman Deken Hanks had a big day on the track to lead the Warriors to a pair of team victories at the Warrior Twilight meet in Crescent City on Friday.
Hanks placed first in both the 100 meters and 200 meters, as well as winning as part of both the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams
Del Norte scored 145 points for the boys team win, barely edging out Brookings-Harbor by just three points at the five-team meet, which also featured Eureka, McKinleyville and Gold Beach.
The Del Norte girls scored 172 points to comfortably beat out second-placed Eureka (109).
In the throwing events, McKinleyville’s Derek Ray and Eureka’s Jamin Guilbert each continued to impress.
Ray took a victory in the shot put with Guilbert second, while the Eureka senior threw a PR of 146’ 5.5” to take first in the discus, with Ray second.
Del Norte’s Caden Harrison also had a big day and won three events, placing first in the long jump and in both relays, while teammate Dylan Rodriguez won the 1600m and the 4x400m relay and Aden Mintonye was on both relay winning teams.
Other winners on the day included Del Norte’s Brandt Pennington (long jump), Bryson Price (4x400m) and Lyon Rigden (pole vault), Eureka’s Elijah Griffin (triple jump) and Petrus McCormick (110m hurdles), Brooking’s Tanner Anderson-Nelson (400m) and Peter Goode (800m), and McKinleyville’s Jace Thompson (300m hurdles).
For the girls, Del Norte’s Lily Sherman was a triple winner on the day, placing first in the high jump, the triple jump and the long jump, and setting a PR in the latter.
Four other girls were double winners on the day, including McKinleyville’s Kalyssa Claros in the shot put and discus and Eureka’s Anna Grimmett in the 800m and 1600m.
Grimmett set a new PR in the 800m.
Brooking’s Spensyr Gotfried won both the 100m and the pole vault, while Gold Beach’s Gabby Perez was first in the 200m and the 100m hurdles.
Rounding out the winners, Eureka freshman Rina Ferroggiaro was first in the 300m hurdles, Brookings Lexie Newman won the 400m, and Brookings won both of the relay races.
