The Del Norte Warriors swept a Big 5 softball doubleheader at Fortuna on Saturday, winning 9-0 and 11-6.

The visitors won with some quality defense behind pitcher Shay Nolan, who threw a four-hitter on the way to victory in game one, with only one Huskies baserunner advancing past first.

Nolan struck out seven and walked four and helped her own cause by going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

Ava O’Reilly also had a good game for the Warriors and was 2-for-3, while Tsinte Steinruck was 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI.

For the Huskies, Isabel Sanchez, Libby Johnston, Zoe Dewberry and Faith Helms each had singles.

The Del Norte girls carried the momentum into game two and jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

The Fortuna bats fared better in game two with 14 hits, as the Huskies consistently put balls in play, but the Del Norte defense played errorless ball to back Nolan in the circle.

After breaking their scoreless run in the bottom of the second, the Huskies would add four more runs in the fifth, but it was “far too late and far too little,” according to the coaches, and the home team stranded 12 runners on base during the game.

Dewberry finished 3-for-4 to lead the Fortuna offense, while Kadence Mace was 2-for-3 and Sanchez was 1-for 4 with two RBIs.

Fortuna’s Hailee Thompson also made some noise at the plate and was 2-for-4, while Helms was 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Myra Hayes was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

For the Warriors, Coy Harper was 2-for-2, with a walk and three RBIs, Steinruck was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, Audrey Phillips was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and Lexi Heuberger was 2-for-4 with three runs.

With the two wins, the Warriors improved to 3-0 in the Big 5 and 9-3 overall, while the Huskies are now 0-3 in league and 6-6 overall.
