The College of the Redwoods women stretched their winning streak to four straight with a doubleheader sweep of Mendocino in non-conference softball on Saturday.

The Corsairs took the opener 11-10 in eight innings and followed that with a 9-1 win in five innings in game two.

The two victories lifted the Redwoods women to 16-10 on the season, as they get set for a huge week with home Golden Valley Conference doubleheaders against frontrunners Butte (12-0 in conference) on Wednesday and Feather River (6-2) on sophomore day on Saturday.

The Corsairs are 6-4 in conference.

On Saturday, they got the better of the Eagles and former Arcata Tiger Raina Ausburn, who started in the circle for them in game one.

The home team rallied to tie the game in dramatic circumstances with three runs in the bottom of the seventh and scored the winning run in the eighth.

Ashley Ballew hit an inside-the-park home run to tie the game.

Catlin Caughie and Kyla Cockerham led the Corsairs at the plate in game one.

Cockerham was 3-for-4 with a triple an RBI and a run, while Caughie was 3-for-4 with a double.

Sadie Hampton also made some noise at the plate and finished 2-for-5 with three runs, while Allie Egbert was 2-for-4 with two runs and the efficient Ballew had two walks in addition to her home run.

Brooke Faraimo got the win in the circle in relief and carried that momentum into game two, holding Mendo to just six hits and one run on the way to her second victory of the day.

Kyla Pontoni had the hot bat in the second win and was 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs, while Hampton, Faraimo and Nas-Che-Wen Hunsucker each added a pair of hits.

This week’s games will take place at the Bear River Casino and Resort, with first pitch at noon on both days.
