The Arcata Tigers took full advantage of a bye week in the Big 5 with their third and fourth wins in just three days on Thursday.
After sweeping a doubleheader from Hoopa on Tuesday, the Tigers traveled to Salesian on Thursday and won two more games, 15-2 and 10-1.
“I thought the kids did a nice job,” head coach Troy Ghisetti said. “Defensively, we’re starting to play and limiting our errors, and offensively, the kids swung the bats very well and gave our pitchers some help.”
Especially in game one, with eight Arcata players hitting successfully.
Miles Oliver and Finn Warner led the way with three hits each, including a double by Warner, while Anthony Ebert was 2-for-3 with a double.
Wilson Medina added a triple and Ben Lukens a double, while Chase Coleman, Ty Ghisetti and Cedar Cline each also had a hit.
Oliver pithed four innings for the win on the mound, striking out five and giving up just two earned runs and no walks.
Cline pitched one inning in relief to help seal the win, and also got the start in game two, throwing 3.2 solid innings for a no-decision, with the game tied 1-1 when he left.
Cline gave up one earned run and struck out five, with Ebert coming in to get the win and striking out four in 2.1 innings work.
Ebert capped a good all-around day with two more hits and finished the day 4-for-7.
Ghisetti added a triple, while Coleman, Oliver, Medina, Will Mager and Tanner Kees each also had a hit.
“Overall, I think we’re getting better each week,” Troy Ghisetti said.
Next up, the Tigers travel to play at the Shasta High School tournament on Tuesday.
McKinleyville, Del Norte and Eureka will also travel for the tournament.
