Huskies, Warriors open Big 5 series in Crescent City

The Del Norte Warriors opened the Big 5 with a 14-4 win over the Fortuna Huskies in five innings in Crescent City on Wednesday afternoon.

Shay Nolan got the win in the circle, tossing a complete-game four-hitter and allowing just four runs and three walks, while striking out two.

Libby Johnston led the Huskies at the plate and was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while teammate Kylee Fennell was 1- for-3 with two RBIs.

The Warriors put the ball in play snd finished with 10 base hits as a team, including two doubles and a triple.

No individual stats were available for Del Norte.

The loss dropped the Huskies to 0-4 in league and 6-4 overall, while the Warriors improved to 7-3 overall.

The Fortuna pitchers had difficulty finding the end zone with numerous wild pitches and passed balls.

When they did hit the strike zone, they had some success and struck out six Warriors batters.

However, their defense committed seven errors on the day.

The two teams are scheduled to close out their three-game series in a doubleheader at Fortuna on Saturday.

First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
