Crusaders split exciting doubleheader against Clear Lake

The St. Bernard’s boys split an exciting baseball doubleheader against Clear Lake at Crusader Field on Saturday.

The home team won game one 8-2 before dropping game two 10-8 in 12 innings after twice battling back from deficits to force the extra innings.

Freshman Michael Manzi continued to impress for St. Bernard’s and had a big day on offense.

After going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and three runs in the opener, the newcomer added another hit in game two, as well as three walks, two runs and three stolen bases.

He wasn’t the only freshman to impress.

Isaiah Wolfe also had a base hit and four walks in game two, as well as three runs and four stolen bases.

Senior Tyler Dimmick got the win on the mound in game one, allowing one run on five hits in six innings and striking out 12.

Dimmick helped his own cause at the plate and was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI, while teammate Tyson Meyer finished 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs.

With the split, the Crusaders are now 3-1 on the season.

Clear Lake is now 3-2.
