Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – The Eureka Loggers
By Ray Hamill — There is no change at the top in our Power Rankings from a week ago, but there’s movement elsewhere in an impressive top five.
It continues to be an outstanding season for the H-DNL teams, with our top-five teams boasting a very impressive 66-20 combined record.
Our top four are all ranked within the top 26 in the entire North Coast Section (out of 144 teams), according to MaxPreps.
The Eureka Loggers remain No. 1 after their key win at Del Norte on Saturday, a victory that lifts them to 3-0 in the Big 5.
Despite the loss, the Del Norte girls remain at No. 2, although they are now tied with the St. Bernard’s Crusaders, who move up two spots this week after knocking off Big 5 opponents on back-to-back weekends.
Could SB’s Laila Florvilus be the best player in the H-DNL right now? She’s certainly playing like it.
The Mack girls, meanwhile, drop one spot to No. 4 but remain a force within the NCS Division-4 field with a deep and balanced roster.
Rounding out our top five are the Ferndale Wildcats, who continue to impress, with their only losses of the season coming against Del Norte, Yreka and McKinleyville.
The Cats are ranked No. 37 in the NCS, but are the No. 1 Division-6 team in the entire state.
