By Ray Hamill — With league play set to tip off in both the Big 5 and Little 4 this week, MIX 95.1 FM has announced the schedule of basketball games the local station will be broadcasting live this winter.
Tag Wotherspoon will be on hand to call the action from 16 games in the regular season between now and early February, as well as the annual Dick Niclai tournament and the North Coast Section playoffs.
The schedule of games being broadcast, as usual, centers around the Fortuna and St. Bernard’s boys teams, but all nine schools will be featured, as well as numerous girls games.
Local prep fans can also follow all of the Del Norte games, boys and girls, on KPOD 97.9 FM, as well as through DelNorteSports.com.
All four local high school leagues tip off this week.
On Wednesday night, Wotherspoon and the MIX 95.1 crew will broadcast the game between the Huskies and Arcata Tigers at Fortuna High, a matchup that right off the bat could go a long way towards deciding this year’s title.
Tip off is set for 7:30 np.m, with the pre-game show getting started at 7:15.
Wotherspoon will also call the action from Fortuna’s game at McKinleyville on Friday night, another showdown that could have a big impact in the race for this year’s title.
The Del Norte Warriors, meanwhile, will also feature heavily on the airwaves this week, with the girls hosting McKinleyville on Tuesday night and Eureka on Thursday.
The Del Norte boys will play at McKinleyville on Wednesday and at Eureka on Friday.
The St. Bernard’s boys’ game at McKinleyville will also be broadcast on MIX 95.1 FM on Monday night.

The Huskies will host the Tigers on Wednesday night.
