The Wildcats saw their nine-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday, when they dropped their opener at the Lady Hornet Classic in Redding.

The Ferndale girls fell 39-35 against Yreka in a game that was close throughout, with the Miners taking advantage of a big second quarter on the way to the victory.

With the loss, which was their first since their season opener at Del Norte, the Cats dropped to 9-2, while the Miners improved to 9-4.

The Cats continue tournament play against Fall River on Friday night at 6 p.m.

Earlier in the week, the Ferndale girls continued to roll with a 60-20 win over Round Valley.

All seven Ferndale girls scored in the win, in what was a “well-rounded team performance,” according to head coach Terra Albee.

Reaghan Langer led the way with a team-high 18 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, while Kayla Albee finished with 17 points, eight steals and seven rebounds.

The ever-dangerous Emily Chavez added nine points, four steals and four assists, while Carly Carmesin finished with eight points, eight boards and four steals.

Clara Albee also had four points and five rebounds.

Clara Christiansen and Tia Henrikson each finished with two points.
