Resilient Corsairs extend winning streak with another big road win

College of the Redwoods Athletics – From left to right, Jett Cheong, Jon Nchekwube and Trey Neff.

Trey Neff hit a go-ahead free throw with just five seconds remaining on Friday night, as the Corsairs stretched their winning streak to seven straight in men’s basketball with a 69-68 victory at Southwestern Oregon.

With the win, the College of the Redwoods men are now 14-1.

“SWOCC specializes in 3 ball and we did a good job limiting their looks, especially in the second half,” CR head coach Ryan Bisio said.

Jon Nchekwube scored a team-high 24 points, while Neff finished with 19 points and Jett Cheong chipped in 11.

The win was the second for the Corsairs this week on the road against a quality opponent, having also defeated Contra Costa 81-64 on Tuesday.

“We couldn’t be prouder of this group of guys,” Bisio said. “What they did this week was so difficult. Basically driving from Oakland to Eugene and playing two playoff level teams. Our resiliency is starting to become a major part of our identity.”

Next up, Redwoods plays Pasadena City College at the Santa Rosa tournament on Thursday at 2 p.m.
